Who I am and my practice
I am Karina Danylchuk, a Ukrainian artist born in the Mykolaiv region. Now I’m based in Kyiv. I started my art career in 2018, and in 2021 I showed my artwork at the first exhibition in the Khmelnytskyi region. In 2024 I continue my activity, participating in Ukrainian and international group exhibitions (Slovenia, Poland, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland).
You can find my full bio and CV above.
My main medium is watercolor, however, in 2024 I started to create a land art and will continue my practice this way. Nature, dark future and my own head are under my deep research.
Take a look at some my watercolors
Fragile nature is under my research. My main focus is on the detailed painting of birds using watercolor. My interest lies in the detail of a single bird or group of birds to set out the difference between people and animals in the way we exist.
I want to show the fragility of a bird world and people's impact on it using watercolors - the most delicate art material. Every brush touch is like embroidery to show the sophisticated elegance of a bird.
What about my land art practice
In 2024 I started a new land art project "Emergency Lighting". I'm still working on it, but you can see the first results here. Other projects are in research mode now.
About "Emergency lighting"
Land art project "Emergency lighting" is about post apocalyptic world (recently after the catastrophe for humans and humanism). Photo fixation of emergency signals which are nonsense for nature, and for the other species on our planet. And how easily nature could be ruined by humans. Absence of any general danger signals for all living organisms. There is no way to warn others of the danger. This project is the first brick in my vision of coexistence on the brink of disaster.
More senses in progress
I've been working with the psychologist at the same time as making a project. Some of my portraits show not only the main topic of the project but changes in my head too. I became a mother, I've got a new role in my life and it gave me more anxiety about the future. Also, it gave me a new way to think about my practice and push to find more ways to create.
Also, in October 2024 I passed a Land Art School (curated by Nataliia Lisova), created a few projects, and had a group exhibition where I represented results.
